Create your website feature updates

How do you tell what version you have?

With version 3+ websites, you can see the label in your administration panel 'create your website 3' or 'create your website 4.x.x'. With version 4 onwards, clicking on the link will bring you to this page which will list newer versions that are available.

Pre-version 3 - if there is no version number at the top of the page, you are on version 2 or older!


How do I update my site?
In future, we may offer an automatic update. However, at present, updates will need to be requested.


How much do updates cost?

There is one free update per year (in any given year) by request, and additionally, this may automatically be performed if it is felt that an update offers enhanced security or significant usability updates. If you require updates beyond this level, they may be chargeable, at our discretion.

When updated, a site will be taken to the current version, which will be reflected within the administrative panel. At that stage, a MySQL database and file backup of the site both before and after the update will have been made. In addition, your site will be enhanced with the facilities it previously had and additional major facilities may not be automatically switched on but will be available as extra features for you to add and use as you require (for instance adding search boxes, new blog software etc.).

Version  updated to 5.0.9.1 (07.10.17) We have improved the CSS efficiency within tempates, thus slightly speeding up the web page rendering for site visitors.

Version  updated to 5.0.9.0 (03.10.17) Within the template editor, we have updated annotation / instructions to facilitate smoother, correct production of mobile responsive templates.

Version  updated to 5.0.8.9 (27.09.17) We have added a new horizontal 'slideshow' banner option to our gallery feature. This tiles three images within a banner and automatically moves through the banner images available as a slideshow, moving images to the left at predetermined intervals. 

There are bullet points below the banner showing where in the slideshow you are and allowing a website user to move back and forth along the slideshow length.

In addition, images can be linked to any url required - so either to pages on site or to external websites.  

Within the admin, options have been given to make the timing longer, or prevent movement of the banner automatically, so that users have to click to move it. In addition, admin can set the alt text labelling of the images and add links to other web pages / website urls to each of the individual images.  The existing image and thumbnail production options remain the same as with our tiled gallery option.

Version  updated to 5.0.8.8 (21.09.17) Minor updates to the product rating facility formatting. In addition, rel=canonical tag updates were made for the category and subcategory sections, to take into account old urls with query strings.

Version  updated to 5.0.8.7 (14.09.17) We have added a product rating facility, with rating and product schema data for individual products.  The facility allows a user to rate the product from 1 to 5 with a comment and their name.  Admin has the ability to change button and star images used, as well as the text used to label and ask for the review.

Version  updated to 5.0.8.6 (03.09.17) Products now have separate product name, url and title option for admin to make changes to each of these as required. The product name is that displayed in the categories, and product listing, the title is used as the meta title of the product. If the product url is altered subsequently, an error message makes sure that the admin is aware of url changes and is able to make a decision before making the change / allowing a reset back to the old url.

Version  updated to 5.0.8.4 (30.08.17) We have added a new facility for adding 'new' or 'featured' products to the home page or other page. A marker is added where this is required. Within each product, you can chose whether the product will appear on the set and this will instantly appear or disappear from the published front page.

Admin can choose how many products show by default and if more products are selected to appear and a 'Load more products' button will allow users to reveal them if this number is fewer than the products chosen to feature. The newest product appears at the top. If no more products are available, a suitable message appears beneath the products featured.

Version  updated to 5.0.8.3 (29.08.17) A change has been made to the menu where manually added items are put first in the menu. Within the desktop version, the top link (category) links to the first manually included item and within the mobile version, the category folds down and a page is show for the first manually added page.

Version  updated to 5.0.8.2 (17.08.17) Within categories, thumbnails are now lined up centrally, to take into account issues of slight discrepancies in sizes of thumbnails. In addition, a 'from' appears before the price if the product has more than one price option and the default product price is still used in this instance.

Version  updated to 5.0.8.1 (16.08.17) We have introduced a deposit only option within the cart system to allow a percentage or amount to be paid for products for customers. Admin decides minimum order amount for a set fee to be charged below this. The system only deals with the initial deposit and terms and conditions must be added to the site to explain how the remaining amount is collected.

Within admin, there has been an update to allow more control over the email subject and initial and a closing message which are used around the order details. This allows for further discount voucher codes, offers or particular messages to be sent automatically with the order receipt.

Version  updated to  5.0.1.7 (27.01.17) We have swapped functionality of new line and new paragraph around when edting the system using Firefox, as new lines only occured if you held shift when hitting the enter key, whereas paragraphs were added when hitting the enter key. This changeover was necessary, as paragraphs often make new div tag containers, which can disrupt a content box area, splitting it incorrectly and preventing re-editing by our automated system. New paragraphs are seldom necessary, as new lines achieve the same thing, and so the functionality was swapped in order to make editing of content boxes easier for a novice user. In addition, paragraphs often cause issues in lining up text and are in themselves sometimes difficult to identify and remove without using the source view, so this acts as a general improvement in usability too.

Version  updated to 5.0.0.0 (27.12.16) Representing a huge step forwards, this major update has added a visual mobile ready template editor to the CMS. Previously, it was possible to predesign mobile ready websites and import them, add the CSS and visually alter the template manually. This new version allows the production of a website layout from scratch, using div tags (content boxes). Using our new content box editor, it is now possible to place and re-edit content areas in the template and to define, produce and edit resolutions of the website template.

Version  updated to 4.8.9.9 (8.12.16) A change was made with how the menu functions, to update the mobile menu when a admin specifies that the first page in a menu does not appear as part of a horizontal menu dropdown. The previous desktop menu would automatically allow user navigation to the first page in the desktop version if it was hidden, by selecting the menu heading. This allows for a tidy top menu when only one page is in a section. However, the previous version prevented clicking of this first page within the mobile menu version, as it functions in a different manner, and so this has been fixed so that the first page shows in the mobile version, even if it does not in the desktop.

Version  updated to 4.8.9.8 (4.12.16) Style options added to allow bespoke bullet points for both ordered and unordered list bullet points, so that you can have an image appear as a bullet point instead. The style is selected from a drop down within the bullet point style option. The images are kept at a set location (that can easily be changed within the site installation set up) so that it is as easy as browsing new images to change the bullet point images used.

This enhancement allows better user experience on sites with vertical menus and brings them into line with the existing horizontal menu facility.

These are removed when published and in preview mode, so that they do not alter the layout of the final page.

Version updated to 4.8.8.0 (21.7.16) It is now possible for the addition of multiple content areas (Div Tags) within the page at the same time. Each is added with the same settings when multiple content areas are added at the same time. This means you can simultaneously add a number of content columns or boxes, each at a percentage or set width, and they will then correctly place themselves and move as you scale the page to mobile.

Version updated to 4.8.7.9 (18.7.16) The 'Div Tag' editor (content areas within the page) has been improved so that the areas added scale to 100% when in a mobile device, if using a mobile template. This happens whether the areas are specified as a set width in pixels, or a percentage of the page. Images within the areas are restricted to the size of the outer boundary of the box and so can scale larger within the mobile area if required, by making them slightly out-sized within the original box.

In addition, we have simplified the editor so that only vital options show when adding the area. Other options, like colour, padding and background images can be reached using the advanced option, to add more complexity to the content area if required.

Previously within the CMS, the web pages had one editable area. Now, up to ten additional editable areas can be added to a template and these appear on all pages that use the template. Multiple templates can be created and information therefore appears where the editable area appears. In addition to giving great flexibility to a page, information appearing on a page can be altered site-wide, simply by changing the location of the editable areas within the template(s) used by the site pages
. This gives huge flexibility to a site and layout  and to complete future site redesigns. It also adds further options for standard template layouts to be picked for certain page types, with mobile ready page layouts already built in.

Tracking landing page and referrals to the website within in website response forms. This is a simple and yet effective way of tracking where referrals have come from when response forms are received. It is an important tool in tracking advertising spend and can also help to track offline advertising, such as leaflet drops, if this traffic is sent to an appropriate hidden url. Any pages with a .php extension, where visitors land is tracked throughout the browser session, along with the url that referred them there.

Because this is a session based recording, no cookies are used and therefore if cookies are switched off in the browser the form will still record the referred url and landing page.

Once a form is sent, regardless of whether .html pages are visited in between, the referring url and landing page url is appended to the form which is sent to the administrator.

The exceptions to this are if www and non www pages are mixed in the site menu pr page links, or if a visitor to the site takes over 30 minutes on the site before completing the form.

The system requires a marker to be added within any templates used for pages.

We have added the functionality for publishing unpublished pages directly within the page editor. A new publishing icon now shows within the page editor, for the pages which are not yet published.

In addition, publish changed pages option has been removed from the pages list, as it is now redundant, due to version 4.5.1 updates. A timer has been added to the publishing and republishing features in the page editor.

A 'Blog Wizard' has been added. Because we now have two types of pages, those for the main site and those for blog pages, a wizard feature has been added to make the process of adding blog pages easier. This allows automatic selection of a blog template and menu category for a blog page. When a blog page is added, the wizard also asks which category the blog is to be placed in.

Blog pages can still be manually configured in the usual way as pages are, in addition to using the wizard and the settings are editable after set up also.

New functionality has been added for the blog pages commenting section. Whenever someone comments on the posts and this comment gets approved by admin, the page update date gets updated to the date when the comments were approved. This also works when an approved comment is unapproved or deleted.

Version 4.4 - major feature release (22.9.14).

A new feature has been added to the CMS functionality to allow site visitors to comment on the pages published to the website, wherever admin chooses the feature to be available on a page.

Whenever someone posts a comment to a page the administrator will receive a notification email and can choose to approve & delete  comments posted. Comments posted and approved are immediately available upon the page, without the page being republished.

There is also a global option for admin to override the need to approve the comments. When selected, comments are automatically approved by default and appear instantly at the page. Admin can unapprove and delete comments later and the relevant comments are immediately removed from the page. 

As with other form captures in our CMS, spam features are inbuilt and automatic.

Improvements have been made for adding custom links to the navigation menu. Before, the links appeared within the menu only. Now they can appear as the first and / or only links within the menu whilst leading to a page not in the section, or externally to the site. The way the menu displays on networked devices like mobiles, tablets etc. has been changed. Earlier, within the menu displayed, sub menus / pages were being displayed by clicking the right-hand-side down arrow. Now, it has been change to show sub menus / pages on clicking on the main menu anywhere within the menu item, where that has a sub menu / pages.

Instead, the menu cuts off at the categories, allowing users to navigate to the Blog category pages where the posts are listed.
