This is a legacy option and we have left it in for people who absolutely, completely insist on adding in Flash to their web pages, or embedding their own videos. However, we strongly advise agaist either of these.

Flash: Flash is incompatible with evey Apple device - so that's every Iphone, Ipad and Mac. With currenrly nearly half of the mobile devices in the UK being Apple based, Flash will now show for these devices. Please consider other alternatives. This reason is good enough in itself, but add to that that Flash links are not followed by web spiders and Flash text and images is not indexed, as well as the higher download overhead which much of the Flash content has, then this should also put you off using it.

Videos: In general, we suggest you use YouTube for uploading and serving your videos. It gives some of the best device compatibility is easy to embed on your site, with little overhead in terms of download speed for your website, and it is possible to make the videos fit to mobile, too. Not only that, but you potentially stand to gain some good traffic from having a useful YouTube channel.

In addition, and very importantly, YouTube serves videos efficiently and generally without stuttering and buffering caused by a slow host, as can happen with self hosted videos. Such buffering can cause people to leave the site, rather than continue to view the information.
